Tips to generate a secure and strong password for sensitive and confidential accounts

While I was browsing through the internet, I read an article which said that a pretty famous website has been hacked and all its user’s passwords were stolen. And another article which I read said that people keep very simple passwords like 123456, password etc for their very important logins like net banking etc. I was taken aback to know that people are so ignorant about keeping such weak passwords which virtually means offering a free cake to the hackers.

I wanted to educate the few of those who visit my site on how to generate a secure and strong password, how to protect sensitive accounts such as personal email ids, bank accounts etc from hackers. So, here are some of the tips on how to create strong and secure passwords.
  • Never keep your personal details as your password. For example, your name, your father/mother’s name, dates of birth etc.
  • Never keep the same passwords for all your accounts.
  • Do not use a dictionary word as your password because there are few tools available over the internet which can try to login to your account by trying the words from the dictionary.
  • Try to use at least one number, special character, upper case letter in your password.
  • Change your password frequently. I would recommend you to change the passwords of sensitive accounts such as bank accounts every one month.
  • If you are tired of thinking of a strong password, you can try some free password generators available over the internet such as PCTools’ Secure Password Generator, Strong Password Generator etc.
  • And, if you feel that you might forget your password or you have so many accounts that you can’t remember which password goes to which account, you can use password managers such as KeePass .

Hope the above tips might be useful for someone. If any of you have another way of making the passwords secure, do let know.
